Compositeur du thème principal : Stu PhillipsTournée en 1978, Battlestar Galactica raconte les aventures d'humains qui, vivant depuis des générations aux confins de l'espace, reviennent sur Terre espérant y trouver les technologies qui leur permettront de combattre leurs ennemis, les Cyclons.
Renommée Galactica dans les pays francophones, la série sera annulée après les 24 épisodes de la seule et unique saison. Elle renaîtra pourtant à plusieurs reprises : en 1980, pour 10 épisodes avec un casting largement remanié, puis en 2004 sous le nom de Battlestar Galactica.
La bande originale de la série initiale fut publiée en LP dès 1978. Composée par Stu Phillips, à qui l'on devra plus tard la musique de la série K2000, elle ressortira en CD en 1993, puis en 2003, à l'occasion du 25ème anniversaire du tournage. Ce CD se différencie du précédent par l'ajout d'une version disco du thème principal.
