Ce triple CD regroupe les musiques issues du catalogue Chappell Music utilisées pour Le Prisonnier. Aucune composition spécialement faite pour la série, donc, mais une centaine de musiques qui constituèrent le choix opéré par les illustrateurs sonores dans la vaste collection de Chappell. Beaucoup d'autres séries de l'époque eurent recours au même catalogue.
Beaucoup de ces musiques figuraient sur les deux séries de trois CD édités par Silva Screen. Néanmoins, plusieurs d'entre elles sont inédites, tandis que d'autres sont présentées ici dans une qualité sonore clairement supérieure à ce qui existait auparavant.
Tiré à 1 000 exemplaires, ce triple CD est introuvable dans le commerce. Il n'est vendu que par son producteur, joignable à cette adresse électronique : No2YourVillage@aol.com.

Tournée en 1966/1967, cette série britannique est sans doute l'une des plus connues au monde.
Qui n'a jamais entendu le Numéro 6 hurler Je ne suis pas un numéro, je suis un homme libre ? Imaginée et interprétée par Patrick McGoohan, tout juste sorti de Destination Danger, elle déconcertera de nombreux téléspectateurs. Ils auront 17 épisodes pour tenter de comprendre si le héros est prisonnier du Village dans lequel il est enfermé ou...prisonnier de lui-même.
Les musiques de la série bénéficient aujourd'hui encore de l'extraordinaire renommée de cette oeuvre hors du commun. Pour preuve, la société britannique Network, qui s'est lancée dans l'édition de bandes originales en janvier 2008, a fait du Prisonnier le premier opus de sa nouvelle collection.
Présenté en boîtier DVD, ce volume présente 3 CD réunissant les musiques exclusivement écrites pour la série (Les morceaux pêchés dans les catalogues préexistants n'y figurent pas). On y trouve notamment The Age of Elegance, première version (dépouillée) du thème principal composé par Ron Grainer. Sa qualité sonore est remarquable, aux antipodes de celle, très mauvaise, éditée par Silva Screen en 1991.
Entre autres curiosités, on peut écouter les différentes sessions d'enregistrement dudit thème principal dans sa version définitive. Et notamment les prises ratées en raison de fausses notes ou de trompette défaillante. Un must pour les fans !

Le Prisonnier (Bande originale) - Coffret 3 CD (2002)
Ce coffret est l'édition française des trois CD édités par Silva Screen Records en 2002 (voir ci-dessus). A l'exception des extraits de dialogue, présentés ici en français, leurs contenus sont rigoureusement identiques.
Présentés dans un coffret métallique (semblable à une boîte de bonbons Quality Street), les CD sont rangés dans un emballage en plastique individuel. L'ensemble est accompagné d'un livret détaillant les pistes sonores et d'un badge reprenant le dessin du couvercle du boîtier.

Prisonnier sur support numérique. C'était en 1986.
On y trouve notamment les thèmes d'ouverture (versions brève et longue) et de clôture, ainsi que le projet de thème principal écrit par Wilfred Josephs. Projet qui fut finalement refusé.

Ce deuxième volume contient une pièce rare intitulée
The age of Elegance. Il s'agit de la première maquette du thème de Grainer enregistrée dans une version pour le moins dépouillée.
Véritable pièce de collection, elle est de mauvaise qualité sonore, mais incontournable pour les aficionados. Une copie de bien meilleure qualité figure sur l'ensemble de 3 CD édité par Network en janvier 2008.
